~ Tournament Casting ~

Tournament casting was established in America during the 1860's, with fly fishing equipment being the first tackle predominately used. These tournaments were set up to promote accuracy as well as distance. It wasn't until 1884 that the first plug casting tournament was started in New York.

From the late 1800's to the 1950's tackle manufacturers really promoted tournament casting; it helped with sales as well as product development. Tournament casting peaked in this country during the 1930's and while the sport is still very much alive today it is a mere shadow of the golden years: circa 1900 - 1950.

On this page we will take a look into the past to see how it has affected our saltwater fishing clubs.

ACA Casting Medal

This ACA Casting Medal probably dates from the 1910's-40's. The medal measures two inches wide and is quite large for a pin-on award.
